The name of North Penn Hospital, recently acquired by Universal Health Services, Inc., (UHS), has been changed to Central Montgomery Medical Center (CMMC). This was announced at a reception at the PineCrest Country Club, in Lansdale, PA, February 5, 2002. The acquisition is particularly significant for UHS as it represents its first acute care facility in Pennsylvania, and brings the total number of the company's facilities to 100. Marc D. Miller was appointed as CEO/Managing Director. A graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with an MBA in healthcare management and finance, Mr. Miller joins CMMC from Wellington Regional Medical Center, in West Palm Beach, FL where he was Chief Operating Officer. His leadership at Wellington Regional has greatly contributed to the hospital's growth and success. Prior to his position at Wellington Regional, he served as Associate Administrator for Clinical and Support Services at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., another UHS acute care facility. Mr. Miller also was Director of Operations for UHS' Radiation Oncology Division. UHS expects Mr. Miller's leadership will bring similar successes to CMMC. "Marc Miller is smart, experienced and an extremely adept administrator," said O. Edwin French, UHS Senior Vice President and President of Acute Care. "Under his capable direction, UHS will work very hard to better meet the needs of the local community as well as the staff at CMMC. Our plans are for significant improvements to the physical plant, the expansion and addition of patient services, and the use of new, highly sophisticated technologies. Coupling these with UHS' commitment to service excellence will enable the hospital to build on the legacy of this institution and assure its position as one of the leading acute care facilities of its kind." Current plans for CMMC include the expansion of the Emergency Department in 2002, development of a new medical office building, improved physical facilities for oncology outpatients, the installation of a new fixed-based MRI and interventional radiology equipment, the development of a free-standing cancer center and physical expansion of the hospital to accommodate other new services. Service Excellence, UHS' corporate brand of courtesy and respect for patients, also will be implemented.
