KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Universal Health Services, Inc. (NYSE: UHS) announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire a ninety percent (90%) interest in Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. The acquisition is to occur through Pendleton Methodist Hospital, L.L.C., a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc., in which Methodist Health System Foundation, Inc. will hold a 10% interest. Closing of the transaction is expected to occur as early as November 1, 2003.

Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital ("Pendleton Memorial") is a 306-bed, full service acute care facility located in East New Orleans. Pendleton Memorial produces approximately $120 million of annual revenue. UHS expects to realize significant operating efficiencies as the Company's Chalmette Medical Center, a 195-bed acute care hospital, is approximately ten miles from Pendleton Memorial.
